“Duet with Vases” is a work for four dancers: two in their late thirties and two in their mid-twenties. The dance draws on a 2019 interview with my mother, a former competitive gymnast. In the interview she keeps returning to the fleeting premise of the virtuosic body: “And there’s a point where you do it for the last time but you don’t know that you’re doing it for the last time.” The work looks at the vase as a shifting metaphor– at once womb, vessel, emptiness, fragility, transparency, trash, and evidence.
