Barbie will be presenting their paper “Reframing Fat as a Tissue Worthy of our Study” at the Somatic Movement in Dance Education special conference held by the National Dance Education Organization and the International Somatic Movement and Therapy Association at the Varis Center at Gibney Dance in New York City.

From May 20-30, Barbie Diewald was Artist-in-Residence at Subcircle in Biddeford, ME. Diewald was joined by Dramaturg Meredith Bove and dancers Julia Antinozzi and Chloe London, to continue work on “Lexicon.” Barbie also taught a guest workshop at Casco Bay Movers in Portland, Maine.

Barbie was elected to serve as a New England Regional member of the National Board of Directors for ACDA- the American College Dance Association. Barbie has been bringing Mount Holyoke students to ACDA conferences since 2017, and is excited to continue their work with the organization.

Barbie performed in Sara Smith’s work alongside Meredith Bove, Jules Skloot, and Smith as part of “Small Seeds”: a gathering of artists rooted in contemplative practices. The performance was presented by the School for Contemporary Dance and Thought, and took place on April 12 at the new workroom theatre at 33 Hawley in Northampton, MA.
