Barbie Diewald received her BFA in Theatre and minors in Dance and Gender Studies from Millikin University in 2008. A native of Chicago, she studied under Kenneth von Heidecke at the School of the Chicago Festival Ballet and Claire Bataille, Birute Barodicaite and Laura Wade at Hubbard Street Dance Chicago. She has performed extensively with the Chicago Festival Ballet and Midwest Ballet Theatre. Upon moving to New York, she founded &Initiative, a site-specific dance company that has performed throughout New York at Washington Square Park, The Brooklyn Botanic Gardens, and Brooklyn Bridge. Her choreography has recently been presented by Dance New Amsterdam. In 2010, she was commisioned by Millikin University’s Department of Theatre and Dance to choreograph their production of “Urinetown” at Albert Taylor Theatre. Barbie has studied Viewpoints and the Suzuki Method extensively with SITI Company, a New York based theatre company headed by acclaimed director, Anne Bogart. She is a founding director of TrioDance Collective, a company in support of young New York choreographers. TrioDance Collective’s inaugural performance is June 25 and 26, 2010 at Triskelion Arts Center.
